The Telangana State Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, has requested the Tata Group of companies to invest about Rs 30 to 40 thousand crore for an integrated development of Hyderabad and help make it a world-class 'Smart City'.

In an interaction with top executives of the Tata Group on Friday, he briefed them about the historical richness of Hyderabad, and the upcoming ITIR project area.

He said that the software industries in Hyderabad need companies like Tatas to invest.

Anil Sardana, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Power, was among the top executives present at the meeting.

The CEO of Tata Power has offered to establish up to 1,000 MW of thermal power project in Telangana which would be able to produce power in the next two years.

Besides developing a coal-based power project, he has offered the group's services to add solar power capacity as well as decentralised distributed generation solutions using solar power for rural areas, and also roof top solar, and energy plantation on waste lands for bio mass power.

In the field of establishing thermal generation plant, the executives said the scope of the project will be to develop new power plants with domestic or imported fuel on tolling basis and design, build, finance, own, operate and maintain the project.

The Minister for Agriculture, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, S Narsing Rao, were also present at the meeting, a release from the CMO said.
