Protests over the Intermediate examination fiasco in Telangana intensified on Tuesday, with the protesters seeking legal action the guilty.

They alleged that the contract for examination process work was awarded to the private firm Globarena under political pressure.

Members of various students’ unions and Opposition parties staged protests across the State capital and in the districts, leading to the arrest of scores of students.

Noisy scenes were witnessed near Pragathi Bhavan, the official residence of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, when members of BJP Yuva Morcha tried to enter the premises, demanding action against those responsible for the errors and “the loss of lives of about 20 students.”

Rallies were also taken out at many places across the city, including Tank Bund and the Collector’s office, and many were taken into custody.

Congress leader Revanth Reddy alleged that KT Rama Rao was behind the award of the contract to Globarena even when the government agency, Centre for Good Governance, was well-equipped to do the same and had a good track record.

There were also protests over KT Rama Rao’s response to a query in Twitter that he “never heard of Globarena” till now.

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) announced Intermediate results on April 18 with many errors. Out of 7.9 lakh students appeared, 3.28 lakh were declared failed.

The panel that investigated the fiasco blamed Globarena for the errors as well as BIE for lack of proper standards and coordination.

The re-verification of answer scripts of failed students is currently under way at 12 centres and the results will be announced on May 8.
