The Telangana Government will release a draft notification later this month on the creation of new districts in the State. The newly carved Telangana state will have 14 new districts, taking the total to 24. After taking suggestions from the people, the Government would notify the names of the districts before Dasara festival (October 11).

The creation of new districts such as Jagityal, Mahaboobabad, Badradri and Yadadri is expected to reduce hassles for people travelling to the district headquarters.

With the government indicating the names of some new districts, political parties and stakeholders in different parts of the State have started agitations demanding inclusions in the list.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, who reviewed the process on Tuesday, has asked the government to take into consideration administrative and economic backwardness as parameters and not political demands while de-marking borders for the new districts.

Cabinet committee

In order to quicken the process, the Chief Minister has formed a Cabinet Sub-Committee to study the issue. The panel, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Mohamood Ali (who also holds the Revenue portfolio), will have Kadiyam Srihari, Eatala Rajender, Thummala Nageshwara Rao and Jupally Krishna Rao as members.
