Aiming for a robust industrial growth and dependable power infrastructure in the state, Tamil Nadu government has set its focus on energy and power projects during its first ever two-day Global Investors' Summit slated to happen on May 23 this year.

"Focus during the event will remain on the energy sector both renewable and conventional. Also, infrastructure will be another area of focus as laid out in the state government's Vision 2023 document launched by Hon Madam in 2012," said C V Shankar, additional chief secretary - industries here addressing media.

At the road show for the event in Ahmedabad, P Thangamani, Minister for Industries, steel control, mines and minerals and special initiatives, government of Tamil Nadu interacted with business heads from Gujarat. "While Gujarat is considered as trade gateway to West, Tamil Nadu is the gateway to the world's most competitive regions of Asia Pacific. Besides representation from other states and nations, we expect industry participation from Gujarat as well," said Thangamani in a media interaction here.

"We expect concrete MoUs worth Rs 100,000 crore to happen during the summit. The summit is the fallout of the former chief minister madam's vision," he said.

The government has planned road shows to overseas nations like France, UK, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, US, Canada, Taiwan and Abu Dhabi.

Conceptualised on the lines of Gujarat government's bi-annual Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), Tamil Nadu government has also roped in partners countries like Japan, France and United Kingdom. Requests have been sent to other countries as well and the government expects positive response from Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Kenya, South Africa and Israel. "US, Germany and Taiwan have refused to partner," said Shankar.
