Ratan Tata, former chairman of Tata Sons, has invested an undisclosed amount in women-only fashion portal Kaaryah, owned by Kaaryah Lifestyle Solutions. This is Tata’s seventh investment in a start-up since he retired as Tata Group chief.
The online venture, started by Nidhi Agarwal, offers western-wear in 18 different sizes and brings out 150 formal-wear designs every month.
Ratan Tata has invested in ventures such as Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone, Cardekho.com, Paytm and wind energy start-up Altaeros Energies. He has also picked up a minority stake in Chinese handset maker Xiaomi.
The companies that Tata has picked up stakes in say he is not just an investor but a mentor as well.
