Lalji Singh, former Director, the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), has been selected for the award of SERB Distinguished Fellow. It is given by the Science and engineering Research Board (SERB) which is a statutory body of the Government of India.

The award supports research of scientists who are active and performing even after superannuation. The award has been given in recognition of Lalji Singh, also a former VC of BHU for his continued outstanding performance and also for mentorship young researchers. It carries an amount of Rs 60,000 a month and a research grant of Rs 5 lakh a year for a period of three years.

He has started the Genome Foundation, a non-profit company established in May 2004 in Hyderabad. It strives to take authentic and affordable DNA technology and other genetic diagnostic services to the underprivileged and rural populations in the country to eradicate or control genetic disorders by using genetic screening, prenatal diagnosis and genetic
