Developers in Tamil Nadu will soon be able to get planning and building permits online in 45 days through a single-window system, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Inaugurating the 11th edition of property expo FAIRPRO organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India, Chennai Chapter, he said applications for planning permissions can be obtained through an online portal, which has been developed in partnership with IIT-Madras.

Deputy CM O Panneerselvam said: “The online applications will be scrutinised through the tailor-made software.” Stating that infrastructure is a key area of development, he said there are more projects in the pipeline. A proposal for an elevated corridor connecting Chennai airport and Chingleput to reduce city traffic is in the final stages of development. A greenfield airport in Chennai suburbs is also in the planning stage. “The proposed international airport will have the capacity to handle four crore passengers a year,” he added.

Housing for all is a major area of focus for the government. Palaniswami said the Housing and Slum Clearance Boards are working on several special projects to ensure affordable housing is available for all. The government is also taking steps to encourage private participation in the project. He said events such as FAIRPRO that bring all stakeholders under a single roof will help consumers make the right choice.

The three-day fair will see 85 developers displaying over 350 residential projects with prices of ₹20 lakh-₹2 crore. All projects are registered with the TN Real Estate Regulatory Authority. Last year, the expo had seen business to the tune of ₹200 crore.
