Tamil Nadu today witnessed the highest single-day spike of 1,685 coronavirus positive cases. This is the third consecutive day when over 1,500 positive cases were reported in the State, taking the tally to 34,914.
In Chennai alone, 1,242 persons were infected today, increasing the total number to 24,545. Chengalpattu witnessed an increase of 158 cases, followed by Tiruvallur with 90 and Kancheepuram by 32. The balance cases were reported across various other districts, including Madurai, Vellore and Tiruvannamali.
On Tuesday, 798 persons were discharged after treatment, putting the total number of persons recovered to 18,325. This leaves 16,279 active cases in the State.
On Tuesday, 21 Covid-19 patients died, taking the total fatalities to 307.
A total of 13,219 samples were tested, said a Health Ministry bulletin.
