May 14 will be the final day of the ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) starting in New Delhi. The two-day meeting, which commenced on May 13, comes at a time when the multilateral rule-based-trading system is facing grave challenges. The move is aimed at providing an opportunity to the ministers to discuss various issues and the way forward.

United States (US) Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, will arrive Sochi, Russia to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on May 14. The visit was initially scheduled to take place on May 13. However, the US Secretary of State postponed it to meet with the EU representatives over the Iranian nuclear deal in Brussels.

Cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman will depose in person for their alleged Conflict of Interest case before the BCCI Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer, Justice DK Jain, in New Delhi on May 14.  As per complaint lodged by Sanjeev Gupta of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), Tendulkar and Laxman are alleged to be conflicted for their dual roles as members of Cricket Advisory Committee and as icon (Tendulkar for Mumbai Indians) and mentor (Laxman for Sunrisers Hyderabad) of IPL teams.

The Supreme Court on May 14 will hear a plea filed by BJP youth wing worker Priyanka Sharma against her arrest by West Bengal Police for sharing a morphed picture of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Sharma was sent to police custody after sharing a picture in which the West Bengal’s Chief Minister’s face was superimposed on actor Priyanka Chopra’s body, in the dress she wore to the 2019 Met gala.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet will meet on May 14, even as controversy rages over the issue whether such a meet can be conducted as the election code is still in force. Originally, the Cabinet meet was scheduled for May 10. The State Cabinet wants to discuss the aftermath of cyclone Fani and the heatwave conditions in the state and the requisite measures to prepare for the coming kharif season.
