The Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by Atul Rai, the SP-BSP candidate from the Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency on May 17. Rai has sought protection from arrest in connection with a rape case. A vacation bench of the apex court said that they will hear the plea till May 23. This comes a month after a college had accused Rai of sexually assaulting her.

The apex court will hear a plea against the Delhi High Court’s order on the allocation of IAS officers and IPS officers of the 2018 batch. The high court’s orders came after four petitions were filed by the officers of the 2018 batch. The petition challenged the Centre’s notification allocating cadres to candidates of the Indian Police Service on the basis of the results of the Civil Service Examination.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi will conduct a rally in the Shimla Lok Sabha constituency on May 17. This will be the first major event of the party in the region. This comes two days before the country enters the final phase of polling in the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Himachal Pradesh had also sought a roadshow of Priyanka Gandhi, but it could not be organised.

The campaigning for the final phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 will conclude on May 17. Addressing voters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted that he would not be campaigning in the Varanasi constituency. He will, however, be holding a public meeting in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh.

Mumbai to get its first low-cost flight to Bangkok from May 17. SpiceJet will begin services from Mumbai to Bangkok, becoming the only low-cost carrier plying on this route. This is SpiceJet’s second international destination with a direct-flight service. At present, a return ticket for the same route costs approximately Rs. 20,000.
