Emphasising the need for better hospitality services in the country, Tourism Minister KJ Alphons on Thursday said services being offered in the tourism sector can be further improved.

“The tourism sector needs to improve its hospitality services since hospitality is the distinguishing feature of India and gives it an edge over other countries,” he said while presenting the National Tourism Awards. He added that it is the responsibility of every citizen to build the image of the country as a safe destination for travellers.

During the event, the Minister also launched the ‘Incredible India Mobile App’ and the ‘Incredible India Tourist Facilitators Certification’ programme.

Meanwhile, speaking on the condition of the flood-hit Kerala, Alphons said the State is ready to receive tourists and hotels as well as tourist sites are now operational.

“The State is rapidly recovering from the disaster and now it is time for the tourism industry to support the State’s tourism sector,” he said. The National Tourism Awards are given away every year to recognise outstanding services in travel, tourism and hospitality seegments . This year, 77 awards were presented.
