US-headquartered Ljungstrom, which provides products for improving efficiency and controlling emission at coal-fired power plants, is consolidating its Indian manufacturing operations at Mahindra City factory near Chennai.

The growing need to reduce pollution and improve efficiency at thermal power plants provides a huge opportunity for the company, which is part of Arvos Group.

“Amid its strong progress, challenges remain in terms of sustainability, reliability and storage in renewables. So, it’s going to be a judicious mix between thermal and renewables to stimulate growth in India,” said Pankaj Chopra, Managing Director, Ljungstrom India.

The company has emerged a leading supplier of air preheaters and gas-gas heaters, which promise to enhance boiler efficiency and control emissions, respectively.

The ₹100-crore plus Ljungstrom India has an order book of ₹250 crore in hand.

The company has closed its small units in Shahabad in Karnakata and Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai, and is consolidating the operations at Mahindra City to serve both Indian markets and other geographies such as neighbouring countries in Asia, West Asia and Africa.

It has made an undisclosed further investment in setting up a new air pre-heater unit at the Mahindra City manufacturing campus and the unit will have an annual production of 16,000 metric tonnes.

“Our Advx technology can help Indian thermal plant owners save more than $2 billion in compliance costs,” said David Breckinridge, President, Arvos Ljungstrom LLC.

The company has supplied its products to various units of NTPC and is also working with several IPPs.
