The Madhya Pradesh Government has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh for a descendant of the freedom fighter Tatya Tope.
The Financial assistance worth Rs 1.50 lakh has been ordered from the Chief Minister's Discretionary Fund to Gwalior resident Mr Vasant Rao Tope, a descendant of Tatya Tope, for his cancer treatment, officials said today.
Ramchandra Pandurang, popularly known as Tatya Tope, played a crucial role in the 1857 uprising against the British rule.
He also fought against British forces when they were engaged in a battle with Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi. However, he was defeated and later executed in Shivpuri town in Madhya Pradesh on April 18, 1859.
