If you are a tech enthusiast, you tend to spend most of the time fighting bugs (the e-variety, not the ones you usually find in beds), which nobody would have encountered or have answers. There is nothing much you can find from the Web, because the product has just been released and other tech enthusiasts are still fighting other bugs.

I was eagerly refreshing the Windows 8 upgrade site as Steve Ballmer was speaking. I was aware that Windows 8 won’t be available till at least the event was over, but I was hoping against hope that Microsoft would release Windows 8 by mistake.

Nothing of that sort happened. It was not available even after the event ended. I had refreshed the Windows 8 upgrade page so many times that the page was beginning to irritate me.

Finally, it happened. The Windows 8 download started... and stopped. This happened at least ten times. I got fed up and went to bed. The next morning was different. The download was completed without a hitch, and I entered my credit card details for upgrade. The next screen shocked me. It said the transaction could not be completed. When I tried to download again, the computer refused to allow it and said the set up was “already in progress”, but I could find no trace of the “progress”. If the transaction had failed, what was “in progress”?

Then I thought I would check my email. Yes, there was an email saying my transaction was in fact, “successful”. It had the Windows 8 key and also another download link. It was a big relief and I clicked the download link again. Now there was no problem. The download and installation went without a hitch. All the settings and apps were imported, and I did not have to do anything.

The only culprit was the Bitdefender Total security, which stopped working....and I am still struggling with it. I don’t know whether other software too are having compatibility problems. I will come to know as I use them.
