Children with special needs who require eye care now have an exclusive facility at the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad.

The Eye Institute and RenewSys India Pvt Ltd have come together to launch a ‘Special Needs Vision Clinic’ in co-operation with the Mission for Vision.

RenewSys, the renewable energy arm of the ENPEE Group is a manufacturer of solar PV modules and its components.

Facility is among the first of its kind dedicated to the eye care of children with special needs.

Avinash Hiranandani, Managing Director, RenewSys along with Gullapalli Nageswara Rao, Chairman of LVPEI and Elizabeth Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Mission for Vision, were present at the launch of the centre.

The LVPEI has since 1987 reached 1.75 lakh persons with low vision and blindness of whom over 41,000 are children through various rehabilitation interventions. At least a third of the children have some form of developmental delays and disabilities, requiring specialised assessment and help.

The project aims to provide comprehensive eye care services for children and adults with special needs by assessing their visual needs with special tools, providing appropriate spectacle prescription, low vision devices and therapies to maximise their functional ability.

Mission for Vision is a not-for-profit organisation present in 16 States and closely works with 24 reputed NGO eye hospitals. It has enabled over two million eye surgeries along with its partners.
