YouTube India has said the number of content creators from the country has grown from 20 to 130 in last one year.

Buoyed by this metrics, YouTube has also expanded its Fanfest to five cities in India. The festival is an annual event where creators and fans come together for an offline engagement. It is held in almost 20 countries worldwide.

“When we started Youtube Fanfest in India in 2014, there were barley any subscribers who had notched a million viewer mark. However, it has grown tremendously in the last few years,” Satya Raghavan, Entertainment Head, YouTube India told BusinessLine.

Youtube Fanfest was held in Mumbai on Friday.

The content creators were initially from large metros and cities. However, the company said over the years, a large chunk of its creators are emerging from pan-India.

“Previously content was largely in Hindi, English or Hinglish. However, we have noticed that regional content is picking up in a big way. Cheaper data is revolutionising content consumption,” he said.

Pop-up studios

In 2015, Youtube had collaborated with Whistling Woods in Mumbai to set up a production facility for content creators.

Raghavan said that company has also set up pop-up studios in cities like Hyderabad to aid content creators in their journey of production to uploading of content. Youtube spaces are available in over 10 global locations.

Produced by Branded, and sponsored by 5-Star, Sprite, Hero and Maruti Nexa, the 2018 edition of the YouTube Fanfest brought together established and emerging YouTube stars and their fans from across India and around the world.
