McKinsey & Company has offered 11 summer internships to students of IIM-Calcutta. Around 150 firms flocked to IIM-C this year to offer internships to 449 PGP students out of 454. The selection took place in the first week of November in two slots, with each slot lasting two days.

A total of 282 internships were offered during slot zero, as compared to last year’s 232 offers.

Finance, sales and marketing each constituted around 20 per cent of the offers. Consulting and corporate strategy and business development were close second, with each sector getting 19 per cent of the total offers.

The big daddies from the world of high finance such as JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Royal Bank of Scotland, Nomura and Citibank offered internships in investment banking, markets, and equities research roles. Bank of America Merrill Lynch offered internships in its Mumbai and Hong Kong offices.

Private Equity Internships were also offered by private equity and venture capital firms such as Macquarie Group, Multiples Equity, Monsoon Capital, India Alternative Fund and Clearwater Capital. Consulting majors who offered internships to the PGP batch of 2015 include McKinsey & Co, BCG, Bain & Co, A.T. Kearney, and Accenture. FMCG, media, telecom and healthcare sectors offered sales and marketing profiles. Some of the top recruiters offering such profiles include Procter & Gamble, Hindustan Unilever, Mondelez International, Nestle, HT Media and Star India.

General Management Around 10 per cent of the roles were offered in general management by firms such as Tata Administrative Services, for the Tata group companies,, Aditya Birla Group, Reliance Industries Ltd, Mahindra and Mahindra, and Cairn Energy.

C.K. Birla Group and Google offered internships here first time. Microsoft hired students for their India Development Centre and sales, marketing and services group roles.

Choppies, the leading FMCG retailer in Botswana and South Africa, offered internships based out of Botswana.
