XLRI-Jamshedpur recently concluded its National Industrial Relations Conference, witnessing participation from various academicians, industry experts, union activists, and budding managers from institutes such as TISS, XIMB, FMS, XISS-Ranchi and IIM-Ranchi, and XLRI. The event not only worked as a discussion-platform on the theme ‘Changing workforce and the transforming IR scenario’ but also was a stage to a paper presentation competition.

Ramkumar, Executive Director of ICICI Bank, who was present during the conference, emphasised the importance of managers as custodians of the people who are working under them, and also shareholders’ capital, according to a press note. He also raised pertinent questions on the increasing use of contract labour in organisations, and hire-and-fire policies. Ramkumar said that the role of the managers was to ensure social justice and productivity of capital.

The two-day conference witnessed panel discussions on ‘Changing Workforce - their aspirations and expectations’ and ‘Management in an era of globalisation’.

The final round of an inter B-School paper presentation competition, Sameeksha, for which 50 teams participates, was also held during the conference.IIM-Ranchi won the first prize, and XLRI bagged the second spot with FMS trailing close behind at the third spot.
