The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has bagged the first Visitor’s award for the best Central University of the country.

The President of India, who is also the Visitor to all the Central Universities, had announced the institution of these awards at the Vice-Chancellors’ conference last year with the aim of promoting healthy competition amongst Central Universities and motivating them to adopt best practices from across the world.

Speaking to newspersons here on Friday, E Haribabu, Vice-Chancellor, UoH, said the university had made a mark in research by producing 4,868 publications during 2012-14. Per capita publication for the faculty was 12. The university, which has a patent cell, had also filed 40 patents.

``Placements for students of the university, especially in management and computer sciences, have been significant. A few students from the economics, physics, chemistry, english, mathematics and statistics streams have also been placed,’’ Haribabu said.

The majority of students from the M.Tech/ MCA/ MBA streams have been placed in more than 33 companies that visited UoH for campus placements.

The salary package ranged from Rs 2.40 lakh to Rs 7.50 lakh per annum and the highest package offered to M.Tech students was Rs 7.50 lakh per annum by TCS, he added.
