Working with the government is not easy. Srinivasan says that you must not think of selling your ‘product’, but first find out more about the ‘system’. With this information in hand, you can create a programme that will meet the requirements and eventually solve a problem that may be of interest to the Government.

But be warned of the so-called ‘power brokers’ who will offer to help you with the Government, for a fee or equity stake, through a high-level bureaucrat they ‘know’.

“As a founder if you cannot convince an official of your idea, no one else really can”, says Mishra. His experience has been that retired officials can become your advisors as they know the problem in-depth.
