The next round of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations is being held in Vietnam between August 15 and 19. RCEP is a regional trade agreement being negotiated between the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, including Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea. And patient advocacy groups are worried over the possible inclusion of intellectual property-related provisions that could be damaging to India and other developing countries. These provisions include patent term extensions, data exclusivity, and excessive intellectual property enforcement and public health groups worry that it could pave the way for high priced drugs.
