The IFA tech show hasn't even begun yet and the news and announcements have started pouring in from Berlin, the venue of the annual event, being held this year from September 2-7.
An exciting bouquet of innovative digital delights have been showcased by Lenovo, including new concepts in tablets, and 'mods' or add-on modules for the upcoming Moto Z smartphone.
One of the most interesting tablets Lenovo is showing off, with good reason, is the Yoga Book. The tablet includes an attachment that is a digital slate. With an accessory Lenovo calls the Real Pen, a user can handwrite notes which will convert to text and be saved on the device.
According to Lenovo, you can use the the included Book Pad clipboard to magnetise your papers and keep them in place, editing merging and sharing as you like. It opens up like a book and Lenovo describes it as being most natural to write on.
When a user wants to get serious work done, the Yoga Book can be opened up in Type Mode to use the hidden Halo keyboard which shows up only when you need it. The software-optimised keyboard auto-completes and auto-corrects as you type giving haptic feedback and allowing keyboard shortcuts to make the experience seem much like using a real keyboard. The Halo keyboard is described by Lenovo as being the thinnest yet.
Real Pen
When the keyboard is off, the Create Pad and Real Pen give you the precision and control you expect from a traditional pen on paper, something that artists will enjoy. Drawing with the Real Pen they will find it detects 2048 levels of pressure. Users don't need to charge or worry about batteries; the Real Pen works without needing a charge.
Artists can use two hands: one on the screen to select tools, pan, and pinch-to-zoom, the other hand using the Real Pen to draw on the Create Pad. Best of all, you can see the creations on the display – unlike most tablets, where the hand blocks the display as one draws.
Only 4.55 mm thin when opened, weighing just 1.5 lbs (690 g), and with up to 12 hours of use on a single charge, the Yoga Book will be available in a choice of Gunmetal Grey and Champagne Gold.
