Samsung J7 Prime offers value for money

Samsung J7 Prime

Samsung is known more for its high-end phones like the Galaxy S and the Note series phones. It has not been able to do much in the mid-range category. With the J7 Prime (and also with the On series), Samsung has tried to fill the space and also take on its Chinese rivals who are strong in the segment.

What works with the phone are the battery (3300 mAh) and the RAM (3GB). It was unthinkable to have a Samsung phone with a battery as big as this and a 3 GB RAM at this price point even a year ago. The battery easily lasts over 12 hours and the phone has hardly any stutter. But I have not been able to test it for a long enough time to check for long-term issues.

The phone comes with a Exynos Octa-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. The J7 Prime has a 5.50-inch IPS LCD capacitive display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Though good, it does suffer under sunlight. On the left are the SIM and microSD slots. While there is a separate SIM slot for the main SIM, the other slot houses the second SIM and the microSD. The 13 MP, f/1.9 camera (again, when did you see a f/1.9 camera at this price in a Samsung phone?) is one of the best in this range.

On the front is an 8 MP camera. Both the cameras do a decent job, except in low light conditions. The J7 is a really good phone at this price — that too with the Samsung quality and make. The camera could have been better, but at this price, the J7 Prime is one of the best from the company’s stable.

Love: Overall performance, battery

Hate: Screen under direct sunlight
