Bose has come up with an innovative pair of Ray-Ban-like sun shades that have built-in speakers and a mic. They call them Frames. These miniaturised components are positioned to create a personal audio space for the user so no one else is really disturbed by the music. There are even some style variants.

Here’s how Bose describes them: “To everyone else they’re just sunglasses. But you know the secret: miniaturised Bose electronics hidden in the temples. It’s a state-of-the-art personal listening experience embedded in a classic design.” The other thing they do however is to push contextual information from Siri and Google Assistant to the wearer, depending on the location detected by the GPS on the smartphone the Frames are connected to. This makes them augmented reality audio sunglasses. These are already available for pre-order, but just for the US for now.

And at just under $200, they don’t seem to be phenomenally expensive either.
