If you’re less than satisfied with the sound on your Mi TV — or any other TV for that matter — you can give it a boost with Xiaomi’s Mi Soundbar. Dressed in Xiaomi’s signature white or donning the “Xiaomi look” as some refer to the clean egg-shell-white finish, it can be wall-mounted or placed on a surface. For the wall-mounting, you’ll need someone to fix it up unless you’re handy with tools. When either mounting or placing the speaker, a little care has to be taken not to hide the infra-red port on the TV.

If your TV set-up is in dark wood, it will probably look quite odd but well, white is the only colour available. It is rather nice looking though, with a fabric-like covering on one side, buttons on top and connectivity slots at the back. Underneath is a rubber strip to stop it from sliding off when placed on a surface.

Setting up the soundbar is dead easy, especially if you just use Bluetooth. There are five connectivity options including Line-In, AUX, Optical, Bluetooth and S/PDIF so you can connect to any other TV or even some other device.

The speaker has eight drivers, including two 20 mm dome tweeters for the highs, two 2.5-inch woofers for the mids and four passive radiators for the lows and enhanced bass. The soundbar definitely enhances the sound of a Mi TV though it may not do that much for a TV that happens to come with excellent sound to begin with. It sounds fine — loud and pretty clear with a good sound spread. It works well for a small room. But at ₹4,999 the Mi Soundbar is not about to give you stunning immersive sound — just a boost, adding some depth and volume to the unaided output of the TV. With the launch of the soundbar, Xiaomi has added another product to its ecosystem in India. In China, many more non-smartphone products are available while in India, Xiaomi brings these products in after testing the ground and adding some customisations for the region.

Price: ₹4,999

Pros: Clean looking, lots of connectivity options, loud and clear, good price

Cons: Needs more bass, stark white look may not go everywhere
