Laloo orders scrapping of `Godhra' coach

New Delhi , June 10

THE Railways Minister, Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav, has ordered scrapping of the ill-fated S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express, that sparked the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Alleging that the former National Democratic Alliance Government was trying to keep the burnt coach as a "museum" at Godhra, the station where the train caught fire, Mr Yadav said on Thursday that the coach would be destroyed after the inquiry into the incident gets completed.

Mr Yadav ordered a fresh inquiry into the Godhra incident soon after assuming charge. The inquiry is expected to be completed within a month.

"There are many unanswered questions about the incident which I want to make public after a comprehensive probe. As the victims were Railway passengers, it is our duty to bring out the truth," he said.

It may be recalled that the worst ever riots had broken out in Gujarat after the Godhra incident on February 27, 2002 and the BJP-led regime had said that train burning incident was the main reason behind the riots.
