Sugar Global sugar summit to discuss ethanol potential Our Bureau
Mumbai Dec. 20 AN international conference on world sugar industry and trade — The Sugar Summit 2005 — is scheduled to be held in Mumbai during February 11-12 next year. Experts from India and abroad will share their in-depth views on a range of topics including global sugar market dynamics, Asian sugar alliance, imperatives for the Indian sugar industry, role of cooperatives, structured financing and risk management, innovations in sugar technology and potential of ethanol. After carrying burdensome stocks for four years and emerging as an exporter, India has suddenly turned into a net importer of sugar this year. "The question in the minds of many in the world sugar market is whether India has undergone a role reversal. The summit would seek to examine this in-depth in addition to a session on price outlook," the event organiser, Mr Kailash Singh of Teflas Conferences and Events, told Business Line. Apart from sugar mills, trading houses, multinational companies, industrial consumers, financial institutions, trade intermediaries and equipment suppliers as also service providers are expected to participate. There would be an associated event in the form of an exhibition. A unique interactive session where business leaders and policymakers will crystal gaze into the future, sharing their insights about winning strategies will be the highlight of the meeting, the organisers said.
