No plans to manufacture in India now: BenQ

New Delhi , June 22

BenQ Mobile today unveiled the first batch of dual-branded `BenQ-Siemens' mobile phones in India, even as the company said it had no immediate plans to set up a manufacturing facility in India.

"We have considered the option of having a manufacturing unit in India and last year we had sent a team from Taiwan and Malaysia to look at various Indian cities and their infrastructure. However, we have no immediate plans for a manufacturing facility. We would first like to strengthen our business base in the country before we consider the option for manufacturing," Mr Adrian Chang, President - Asia Pacific, BenQ Corporation, said.

The company today launched mobile phones targeted primarily at three segments - affordability, image and performance.

Amongst the handsets that have been launched today are CL71 that supports features such as MMS, MP3, 3D Surround Sound, embedded games, photo editor and Voice memo; and model S88 that includes features like 64-chord polyphonic ringtones, personal data exchange; and BenQ Qsyncer amongst others. BenQ Mobile was founded on October 2005, after acquisition of Siemens Mobile Devices by BenQ Corporation.
