MPS Tech to sign up with publisher soon

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore , Oct. 26

MPS Technologies, the wholly owned subsidiary of Macmillan India Ltd (MIL), is in the process of signing up with a publisher early next year.

Disclosing this to Business Line, the CEO (Global Operations) of MPS Technologies, Ms Jayne Marks, said a wide range of publishers in Australia, America, Holland, the UK, Germany and France had evinced keen interest in the company's initiatives in building products for both the academic publishing market and the library market.

The company is planning to treble its team size in India from the present 115 in a year or two. The company's India operations, according to Ms Marks, took care of the entire design and architecture.

"Each of our solution is designed to provide publishers and libraries an opportunity to harness new technologies, to develop revenue streams, reduce costs and improve efficiency," she said and pointed out that out of the over 300 million books, less than one per cent was available online.

"We are different from project companies. We are into product development," she said.

Web content product

MPS Technologies recently introduced its first Web content product `BookStore'. Stating that the BookStore was a digital content delivery platform, aimed at helping publishers manage the transition to new digital publishing and distribution models, she said, "it is secure as it helps maintain control over the copyrights. Publishers would have the flexibility to match access rights to the type of content," she added.

On performance, she said "we commenced operations at our Delhi office in February 2005. In the first year, we clocked revenue of Rs 10 crore. It is almost three times that amount this year."

While stating that office space was coming at a premium in India, Ms Marks said the company was looking at occupying a bigger space in India and was still exploring the options of moving to Chennai or Bangalore.

Hailing the quality of Indian software professionals, she said, "While companies might have come to India for cost savings initially, they have stuck for quality."

MPS Technologies is part of the global Holtzbrinck Publishing Group.
