The US-based Silicon Images Inc is preparing the ground to introduce its High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) technology in the Indian consumer electronics market. HDMI technology provides an interface between any audio or video source, such as set-top box and DVD player, and an audio or video monitor such as digital television over a single cable.

This enhances the quality of television images. Silicon Images, which manufacturers semi-conductor chips for television and PCs, co-founded the HDMI technology with a clutch of global consumer electronic majors.
