Hyderabad , Dec 7 Satyam Computer Services has announced plans to establish a 2,000-seat software engineering global delivery campus (GDC) at Cyberjaya in Malaysia, about 50 km south of Kuala Lumpur. This would be the company's largest and first GDC outside India and serve as a development and software support facility for Satyam's ASEAN, US and West Asian customers. A 100-seater global solution centre (GSC) was established about three years ago. An MoU was signed today between the Multimedia Development Corporation of Malaysia and Satyam in the presence of Malaysian Prime Minister Mr Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Strategic destination
The Satyam Chairman, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, said: "Malaysia's advanced infrastructure, rich ICT talent pool and competitive cost environment make it a strategic destination." Speaking from Malaysia, Mr Virender Aggarwal, Director and Senior Vice-President of Satyam, said that the company has been provided with 750 visas and the GDC would also serve as a near-shore hub for Asean and business continuity centre. Though the specialisation would initially be on data warehousing and business intelligence, the GDC would be like any other centre in India working on the entire development process. "We are confident about finding the necessary talent here and the infrastructure is comparable to the best. However, salaries are about 40-50 per cent higher than in India," Mr Aggarwal said. The GDC will be established in conjunction with Malaysia's Multimedia Development Corporation which oversees the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) initiative, spread over 750 sq km. The company has trained Malaysian engineering graduates and employs about 150 people, two-thirds of whom are Malaysian locals. The company plans to increase headcount to 2,000 associates over four years.
