Rly freight earnings up 15.4% in April-Dec

New Delhi Jan. 24 The Indian Railways loaded 527.95 million tonnes of freight goods during April-December 2006 , up from 491.09 MT loaded in the same period last year. Freight earnings went up by 15.4 per cent during the period touching about Rs 30,091.3 crore (Rs 26,074.91 crore).Passenger earnings touched Rs 12,656.45 crore in the nine-month period in 2006 against Rs 11,127.69 crore, said an official release. Accidents in Railways came down to 158 during the period from 181.The Integral Coach Factory produced 886 coaches during the period April-December 2006 exceeding the target by 22 coaches. The Rail Wheel Factory produced 99,453 wheels and 41,806 axles during April-December 2006 compared to the target of 97,047 wheels and 39,736 axles. Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Diesel Locomotive Works and Rail Coach Factory produced 110 electric locos, 137 locos and 958 coaches respectively equalling the target, the release said. .

The Railways' working expenses during April-December 2006 came down by Rs 307.80 crore.
