Consumerism TRAI workshop on consumer education Our Bureau
Kochi March 19 The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has conducted its first workshop as part of its national level programme aimed at consumer education here on Monday. The authority would take initiatives to reduce complaints on billing and metering, besides recommending to the Centre to extend the conditional access services system hitherto available only at the four metros, to other States including Kerala, a senior official told Business Line. Besides, he said, initiatives would be taken to ensure quality of standard from service operators. TRAI has notified several orders, regulations and directions aimed at the growth of the sector as well as consumer protection. However, most of the consumers are not aware of their rights and privileges as consumers of the services, he said. Hence the authority has decided to take up consumer education programme, which are being planned in different parts of the country. Representatives from service providers such as BSNL, Reliance, Tata Teleservices and Bharti Airtel answered the questions from consumers.
