Mergers & Acquisitions Moser unit buys stake in Slovenian co Our Bureau
The move is in line with the company's strategy to ensure access to polysilicon for manufacturing solar cells at competitive prices. "The acquisition also meets Solarvalue's long-term goals to emerge as the leading producers of solar grade silicon and we will help it to augment its silicon production plant capabilities in Ruse, Slovenia," said Mr Ravi Khanna, CEO, MBPV. Solarvalue Proizvodnja d.d, 100 per cent owned by Germany-based Solarvalue AG, plans to set up a solar grade silicon plant with a capacity of 4,400 tonnes by end 2008. Through the acquisition, both the companies would be able to benefit by being able to have presence over the entire photovoltaic space, said the company statement. "The short-term production goals and the next step for refurbishment remain the same. The long-time experience of Moser Baer in commercialising technology and rapid scale up will foster our position in the global PV market,'' said Ms Claudia Boehringer, CEO, Solarvalue AG.
