Petro products sales rise 10.9% in June

New Delhi, July 17 Prodded by a surge in petrol and diesel sales, fuel consumption in June went up by 10.9 per cent. The sales of petroleum products during the month went up to 9.63 million tonnes (mt), up from 8.68 mt in the same month last year.

During the first quarter of 2007-08, fuel demand rose 6.4 per cent to 29.688 mt from 27.904 mt in the same quarter last year. While petrol sales during the month rose 20.4 per cent, that of diesel was up 19.9 per cent. As per the provisional data available, during the month petrol consumption stood at 854,100 tonnes up from 709,600 tonnes in the same month last year. The diesel consumption stood at 3.929 mt, up from 3.27 mt.

In June, while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption rose 6.7 per cent to 859,100 tonnes, naphtha sales were down 20 per cent to 582,900 tonnes. Kerosene sales were marginally down to 775,500 tonnes as against 784,000 tonnes in June 2006. Jet fuel (ATF) sales were up 14.4 per cent to 347,000 tonnes during the month.

During the quarter (April-June), petrol consumption rose 10.6 per cent to 2.592 mt and diesel by 9 per cent to 12.012 mt. According to the provisional data, during June, public sector firms registered a 13.4 per cent increase in sales to 8.652 mt while private companies saw a 6.8 per cent dip to 978,000 tonnes from 1.049 mt. During April-June, public sector companies saw a 9.1 per cent growth to 26.228 mt while private firms saw a 10.6 per cent dip to 3.46 mt.
