Cement stocks move up on price hike hopes

Cement stocks have been gaining of late. According to market sources, traders are expecting a hike in the cement prices soon. According to them, the price rise could be Rs 5 per 50 kg bag. Market rumours have it that the price rise could be across the region. The rise could become effective sooner in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh markets, and subsequently in other regions in the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, analysts also expect higher despatch numbers during November from cement majors. On Friday, ACC shares gained 1.8 per cent, UltraTech Cement gained 0.77 per cent, Indian Cements surged 1.8 per cent, Shree Cement flared up 1.15 per cent, Gujarat Siddhee Cement jumped 4 per cent, JK Cement spurted 7.5 per cent and Grasim Industry gained 2.6 per cent. However, Ambuja Cements ended weak at Rs 150 (Rs 151.30) as Holcim’s open offer of Rs 154 a share for 20 per cent stake in the company has impacted the price movement.
