EOU to boost software industry in Tiruchi

Tiruchi, Jan. 11 A warehousing station for the limited purpose of setting up a 100 per cent Export Oriented Unit (EOU) would come up at Pirattiyur village in Srirangam Taluk in the district, under the Software Technology Park Scheme.
The Commissioner of Central Excise in Tiruchi, Mr Bhikhoo Ram, has made a declaration to this effect following approval by the Inter Ministerial Standing Committee in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Department of Information Technology). By virtue of the declaration, software export companies are expected to launch their operations in the EOU zone and enjoy the tax benefits.
Welcoming the declaration, the President of the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association, Mr S. Sridharan, said the EOU would accord an impetus to the development of software industry in Tiruchi. He urged the State Government to take necessary steps to start a Tidel Park in Pirattiyur.
Meanwhile, the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) will shortly come up with the Expression of Interest (EoI) notification for developing 50 acres out of the 135 acres identified for the Tiruchi IT Park in Navalpattu Panchayat limits.
The joint venture project would encompass a built-up area of 2.5 million sq.ft. and infrastructure such as housing apartments and other social requirements.
