Thomson Asia to set up R&D centre in Bangalore

Bangalore, May 16 Thomson Asia, a digital media and technology business company, on Friday announced it would set up a research and development centre in Bangalore with an initial headcount of 150 engineers.

The centre would become functional in July. Stating this at a press conference to launch the Alcatel brand of corded and cordless basic telephone instruments, Mr Dider Goujard, Managing Director, Thomson Asia Ltd, said the company aimed to garner 10 per cent market share of the basic telephone instruments.

Mr Dider said the company has entered into an arrangement with Unitech Trades, which will be the distributor for Alcatel telephone instruments. Alcatel products will also be sold through multi-brand retail stores.

Thomson would also be introducing its own high-end phones IP compatible instruments and its unique model ‘Symbio’.
