UshaComm bags Nepal contract

Kolkata, May 20

UshaComm India, which is engaged in providing convergent billing and business support systems for telecom companies, broadband/IP and cable and satellite markets globally, is seeking stronger presence in neighbouring countries. Having bagged a $2-billion contract from Nepal Telecom, the company has expressed its desire to expand its footprint to Bhutan and Sri Lanka, among other countries. The company is already present in Bangladesh and Brunei, besides India. Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, Dr Saugata Banerjee, Executive Director of UshaComm India, said the contract in Nepal was bagged against global competition. Its implementation would comprise UshaComm’s customer care and billing solution ‘Unicorn’ and mediation solution ‘Pegasus’. The UshaComm suite would provide end-to-end convergent solutions for Nepal Telecom’s prepaid and postpaid Internet customers. Dr Banerjee said Ushacomm has firmed up plans to extend its offerings to new domains such as the utilities space and BFI (banking, finance and insurance) companies. The company proposes to tread into these domains through its partners. Talks in this regard are already underway.
