Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh Government - Politics AP CM defends allotment of land to IT cos, SEZs Our Bureau Hyderabad, Aug. 28 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today defended the land allotments made to IT companies and special economic zones (SEZs) over the years and said that they were helping create huge employment and in socio-economic development. Dr Reddy maintained that only lands vulnerable to encroachment were allotted to them. The matter of land allotment was raised in the State Legislative Assembly today by Mr Harish Rao of the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi, who sought details of allotment and also alleged that many of the lands were not being used for the main purpose of allotment. The TDP leader, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, alleged that wet agricultural farm lands were being taken away from farmers only to hand them out to private parties who were using it for commercial purposes. Replying to the debate on land allotments, the State IT Minister, Mr R. Damodar Reddy, said that keeping in view the huge employment potential these companies have, and according to the ICT policy, various land allotments were made to companies such as Wipro, TCS, Infosys, Infotech Enterprises, Genpact, VisualSoft, Cognizant and Ananth Technologies. Earlier, Mr Harish Rao said that in the name of IT companies, land was allotted to firms, which are in turn using them for other commercial purposes such as building hotels, other than for IT only. This is particularly true in case of special economic zones which have process and non-process aspects. Details of allotmentsProviding details of land allotments for the IT sector so far, the IT Minister said that about 1,320 acres were allotted to them over the years.
