Hardware Industry & Economy - Education Server breakdown hits TOEFL tests Bangalore, Sept. 8 Students in several Asian countries were not able to take the TOEFL iBT (Internet-based tests) on Saturday due to a server breakdown. Educational Testing Service, which designs, develops and delivers the test around the world, said in a press statement that "the issue appears to be related to the temporary failure of Internet functionality outside of ETS' test delivery system". Sources at Access Education, a New Delhi-based institute that provides coaching and admission counselling to students pursuing higher studies abroad, said that there would be a retake in 2-3 days and that each student would be informed of this individually. About 80,000 students are expected to take the test in India this year, sources said. Meanwhile, ETS has said that steps are already being taken to reschedule affected test takers with a special administration in the near future. "We are investigating this external disruption that occurred outside of our TOEFL iBT network, but our primary concern at this point is accommodating affected test takers with a new testing opportunity that allows them to meet university application deadlines," said Mr Phil Tabbiner, Senior Vice-President, ETS Global. - Our Bureau More Stories on : Hardware | Education
