Our Bureau Chennai, Sept. 12 The Tamil Nadu Government will extend its fullest cooperation for the business community of Taiwan to invest in the State, said Dr C. Chandramouli, IT Secretary, Tamil Nadu Government. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the second edition of Taitronics India, the three-day B2B expo of IT and consumer electronics products, here on Thursday. Bilateral biz Talking about the India-Taiwan bilateral trade, Mr Gopal Srinivasan, a member of TVS group promoter family and Chairman – Mission on India @75, CII, the trade between India and Taiwan is on track to touch at least $7 billion by 2010 from the current $5 billion. Taitronics, organised jointly by Taipei World Trade Centre Co and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association in partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Confederation of Indian Industry, showcases key IT and consumer electronics components from 80 leading manufacturers from Taiwan (60) and India (20). The venue also features two theme pavilions – one from the Computer Society of India and another Taitra Pavilion. In addition, to make Taiwan a great sourcing platform for manufacturers in India, one-to-one trade meetings are also being facilitated by the organisers. Trade partnerAccording to Mr Chih-Peng Huang, Director General, Bureau of Foreign Trade, Minister of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, India is the 18th largest trade partner for Taiwan in the world and largest in the Asia-Pacific region. Imports & ExportsWhile Taiwan’s major imports from India are software services and textile, it exports mainly IT components and machine tools. He said the first edition of the expo last year attracted nearly 3,700 visitors including major global players such as Motorola, Nokia and domestic biggies such as TCS, TVS and Wipro.
