HCL Leaptops designed for India

Bangalore, Nov. 14 HCL Infosystems Ltd on Friday launched the HCL Leaptop Series 39 laptop, which are specially designed for Indian conditions, where the ambient temperatures are higher and the surface temperature of laptops tend to become uncomfortable.

Developed under its “Design for India” program, these laptops are designed to achieve a lower temperature differential of below 6 degrees on its palm rest surfaces. It is priced at Rs 39,900 for the Centrino Model and Rs 42,990 for the Centrino2 range.

The HCL Leaptop Series 39 is based on Intel’s Centrino and Centrino2 Processor technology and comes in both Microsoft and Linux versions. It has battery back-up of more than 4 hours.

Mr George Paul, Executive Vice President, HCL Infosystems, said the company has not seen any slowdown in demand as of now. He the company expects strong demand from the government and enterprises, but there would be some slowdown from the IT sector.

He said HCL Infosystems has a market share of 7.34 per cent in the Indian laptop market, and the company expects to take the market share to a double digit number in the next 18 months.

The Leaptop 39 series, which comes with a 14.1-inch wide screen and is powered by Intel’s Centrino and Centrino 2 processor technology, has a battery backup of more than 4 hours.
