Genpact eyes Govt contracts, outsourcing deals

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Dec. 12 BPO major Genpact will pursue Government contracts next year and also target outsourcing deals from large nationalised companies in China, its CEO, Mr Pramod Bhasin, has said.

The company is also planning to enter West Asia next year, particularly to bid for projects in sectors such as BFSI , oil and gas, manufacturing, and airlines.

“One huge area for us in the domestic market will be the Government contracts, whether it is railways, passport offices and licensing land records and health records…We have not done it so far and we are going to go after it in a big way now. We will go after transactional functions,” Mr Bhasin said.

China plans

On plans for China, Mr Bhasin said that Genpact is working with various multinationals that have operations in that country, and also with some local Chinese companies. “But the key element is to work with large nationalised China companies…banks and insurance firms. These deals take a long time, but they are huge. I think we have to crack a few large deals in China next year,” he said.

The company currently has 3,000 professionals in China, of which 600-700 employees are serving Chinese customers (others work for the Japanese market).

He said that the BPO industry’s growth rate is likely to slow down to 15-20 per cent in calendar year 2009 against nearly 30 per cent growth in 2008. The IT budgets were likely to shrink by nearly 10-15 per cent next year.
