Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), which operates Kochi Refineries Ltd, has bagged the award for excellence in pollution control for large industrial units in Kerala during 2008.

The award of excellence in the category of medium industrial units was won by Cochin Minerals and Metals Ltd.

The companies that have been ranked in the top three, apart from the award for excellence, among the large industrial units in the State for the year are HLL Lifecare Ltd, Thiruvananthapuram (first); AVT Natural Products, Ernakulam, and Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT), Ernakulam (bracketed for the second place); and OEN India Ltd, Ernakulam, and Travancore Cochin Chemicals Ltd (TCC), Ernakulam (bracketed for the third place).

The winners of the award for excellence will get certificates and trophies and those ranked as the first three below them will get cash prices of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively.

Medium units

In the medium industrial units category, the three top-ranked are United Breweries Private Ltd, Palakkad (first); Malabar Pleasures (India) Pvt Ltd, Kannur, and Minar Ispat Private Ltd, Kozhikode (bracketed for the second place); and William Goodcare and Sons, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram Dairy of Milma, and Kairali Steels and Alloys Private Ltd, Palakkad (bracketed for the third place).

The first three places among the small industrial units were bagged by Victory Granite Metals, Thrissur, (first); Mooppan Motors Private Ltd, Ernakulam, and Diamond Food Products, Ernakulam (bracketed for the second place); and Aspinwall and Company Ltd, Plantation Division, Malappuram, and Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, Kasaragod Dairy (bracketed for third place).
