UniverCell ropes in Mahesh Babu as brand ambassador

Hyderabad, Nov. 1 Mobile retail chain UniverCell has roped in Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu as its brand ambassador.

Speaking to newspersons after introducing Mahesh Babu as its brand ambassador, Mr D. Satish Babu, Managing Director, UniverCell, said plans were afoot to add new 100 more stores across the country over next 12 months.

“Each new store will involve an investment of about Rs 25 lakh,” he said. Currently, Chennai-based UniverCell has over 300 stores across the country with a greater focus on South India.

The planned expansion was in tune with the increasing mobile subscriber base and the likely addition of six new players into the Indian mobile services market including Datacom, Etihad, Loop, Telenor, and Swan, he said.

With a net addition of 1.5 million new mobile connections every month, Andhra Pradesh was a major market for Universal, he added.

The company was targeting 20 per cent growth in revenues this financial year.

“Last year, our turnover was Rs 500 crore,” he said.
