French hospitality group AccorHotels is bullish on the renovation space, where it converts existing hotels, for its expansion in India.

The group recently renovated Surya Hotels and Palace in Vadodara under the brand Grand Mercure that began operations in June 2017. Another hotel in south Goa is being renovated under the brand Novotel.

Speaking to media persons at the launch of combo hotel Novotel and Ibis in Chennai today, Jean Michel Casse, Chief Operating Officer – India and South Asia, said the re-branding is definitely a key focus area for the company, which is driven by digitalisation.

“It is for this purpose that we introduced Grand Mercure, which is designed for the Indian audience,” Casse said.

“Currently 45 per cent of the booking comes from digital platform. Unless you have a distribution network, the cost for independent hoteliers is going to be high,” he added.

Casse said the company, which operates around 28 brands globally, is exploring opportunities to bring luxury brands like Banyan Tree to India.

According to Casse, demand for luxury market is on the rise in the recent times, especially in the leisure segment. “Places like Goa and Udaipur present good opportunities,” he added.

The group will also look at integrated resort in wineries that are growing in India.
