At the inauguration of its Sanand plant, second in India after Chennai, Ford Motors President and CEO Mark Fields maintained that he supports a free trade agreement between India and the European Union.
Expressing confidence of potential growth after the FTA, Fields stated that as a company, Ford is always for free trade between the EU and India. “That will boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concept of ‘Make in India’ as the FTA would boost manufacturing in India,” Fields said.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the plant here on Thursday, Fields acknowledged India’s importance with regard to the small car segment. “We want to create a centre of excellence for small cars in India.”
He said Ford looks to make India an export hub, especially for the compact sedan and small car segments. “We target to triple exports from India over the next five years. Also, we plan to increase our export destinations from the current 37 countries to 50 nations in five years,” added Fields.
