KIOCL Ltd (formerly Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd) has begun export of iron ore pellets to China from New Mangalore Port.

A press release by KIOCL Ltd said here on Tuesday that the company loaded 48,309 tonnes of iron ore pellets on the vessel m.v. Port Nelson. The vessel sailed out from New Mangalore Port on August 25 to Frost International Pte Ltd of China.

Quoting Malay Chatterjee, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, the release said that the company has opened up the export after a span of three years with its first shipment of pellets to China.

The company, which has no captive mines, has been sourcing iron ore from NMDC’s mines at Chhattisgarh. KIOCL Ltd stopped mining operations at Kudremukh with effect from January 1, 2006, as per the order of Supreme Court, arising out of the area declared as a National Park.

KIOCL Ltd, however, continues to operate its pellet plant in Mangalore with capacity to produce 3.5 million tonnes per annum as a value addition to iron ore concentrate.
