Mercedes-Benz has launched the S 600 Guard, an armoured variant of its top of the range S-Class sedan. Priced at ₹ 8.9 crore onward (ex-showroom Delhi), the car has been certified for one of the highest ballistics protection.
“This ‘fortress on wheels’ is for our exclusive set of high-profile Indian customers who require the highest levels of protection when on the move,” said Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mercedes-Benz India.
Maruk Rubenbauer, Head Guard Sales at Mercedes-Benz, said the S-Guard with a ballistic protection rating of ‘VR9’ can withstand rifle fire from military weapons and protection from grenades and explosive charges.
The S-Guard, which looks the same from the exterior as the normal S-Class sedan, has special steel integrated into the cavities between the body structure and the outer skin.
“The glass areas are coated with polycarbonate on the inside for splinter protection,” a statement from Mercedes-Benz said.
